There is a strong need to reach out and take proactive action that informs, educates, and equips the community in the event of disaster or emergency. A recent report from the Department of Energy shows a growing number of “attacks and other suspicious activity” on US power grids, underground vaults which house fiber-optic cables, and cell phone towers, causing phone and internet service disruption for days at a time reached a decade long high in 2022. A national bulletin warning by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) states domestic violent extremist groups “motivated by ideological beliefs and personal grievances” have an agenda to destroy or severely hamper critical infrastructures, faith-based institutions, communities, schools, government facilities, and other places where people gather.
